About This Game
Run is a browser-based platform runner created by Joseph Cloutier in 2008. You control a small alien sprinting through a tubular course suspended in space, hopping over missing tiles and, uniquely, "flipping" gravity whenever you step onto a wall or ceiling. Levels get faster and more complex as you progress, and falling off instantly restarts the current level. It originally launched in Flash and has been played millions of times until today. Run remains popular for mostly gravity-shifting mechanics. This simple but brilliant idea made the game stand out when it first launched in 2008, and it continues to inspire new platformer games today. Many obstacle course games were influenced by Run, with fans recreating the gravity mechanic in their own styles, levels, and even full spin-off games. The Run's impact goes beyond nostalgia, and it helped shape a whole sub-genre of physics-bending platformers.
Controls
- Move: Left/Right Arrow or A/D
- Jump: Up Arrow, W, or Spacebar
- Pause: P
Adventure Mode
Pick Adventure Mode and progress through levels one after another. Each level has a set path with increasing gaps and curves. Complete one tunnel to unlock the next. You can go back to one of the unlocked levels in the main menu.
Gravity Flips
Whenever you run up a wall or onto the ceiling, gravity reorients so you stick there. Use these flips to avoid holes in the floor or ceiling. You can sprint sideways, then jump to the ceiling or back to the floor, chaining flips to avoid the widening holes.
Gaps appear faster as you advance through levels. Jump early to clear wide holes, or flip onto a wall mid-air to continue running. If you fall off the path and you respawn at the current level.
Set Speed Fast
Choose normal or fast speed from the menu before starting. Fast makes the Run even more difficult. In contrast, normal setting makes the game a bit more casual.
Developer
Run was created by Joseph Cloutier as a Flash classic and now playable with emulators.

How to play Run?
Basic Controls
In Run, controlling the character is straightforward. Use the Left/Right Arrow keys or A/D to move the alien left or right. To make the alien jump, you can press the Up Arrow, W, or the Spacebar. If you want to pause the game at any time, simply hit the P key. These basic controls form the foundation for navigating through the challenging tubular courses in the game.
Game Objective
The main objective in Run is to guide the small alien through a series of tubular courses suspended in space. Each level presents a set path with increasing gaps and curves. Completing one tunnel unlocks the next, and you can revisit unlocked levels from the main menu.
Pro Tips
When playing Run, timing is crucial. Jump early to clear wide holes, especially as gaps appear faster in higher levels. Use the gravity - flipping mechanic strategically. For example, if you're about to fall into a hole, flip onto a wall mid - air to continue running. Also, consider choosing the fast speed setting for a greater challenge, but be prepared for a more intense gameplay experience.
Key features of Run
Unique Gravity - Shifting Mechanics
One of the most distinctive features of Run is its gravity - shifting mechanics. Whenever the player's character runs up a wall or onto the ceiling, gravity reorients, allowing the character to stick there. This mechanic adds a new dimension to platformer games, enabling players to chain flips and avoid obstacles in creative ways. It makes the gameplay more dynamic and engaging, as players have to constantly adapt to the changing gravity.
Progressive Difficulty
The game's levels are designed with a progressive difficulty curve. As players advance through the levels, the courses become faster, and the gaps between tiles become wider and more frequent. This challenges players to improve their skills and reaction times. The increasing complexity keeps the game fresh and exciting, ensuring that players are constantly pushed to their limits.
Multiple Modes and Speed Settings
Run offers an Adventure Mode where players can progress through levels one after another, unlocking new tunnels as they complete each one. Additionally, players can choose between normal and fast speed settings before starting the game. The fast setting makes the game more difficult, while the normal setting provides a more casual experience, catering to a wide range of players.
Influential Design
Since its launch in 2008, Run has had a significant impact on the gaming industry. Its simple yet brilliant concept has inspired many other obstacle - course games. Fans have recreated the gravity mechanic in their own styles, levels, and even full spin - off games. It has helped shape a whole sub - genre of physics - bending platformers, making it a game with lasting influence.
